Project Overview

Restoration of dilapidated grade II listed Devon longhouse and conversion of associated historic stone barns in Whitchurch, Tavistock. Proposals are to conserve and enhance the sensitive rural setting through sensitive restoration and creation of two 4 bedroom, sustainable dwellings. External works re introduce the historic yard arrangement and the scheme emphasises productive landscaping. Alterations to existing buildings are light touch and respectful of the Tamar Valley national landscape setting. A contemporary, vernacular clad extension of timber and stone maximises long rural views, contrasting old and new elements to ensure the sites development is clear. Historic fabric is thermally upgraded and installation of renewable technologies ensures the project meets the expectations of modern living standards.
