Project Overview

Located within Dartmoor National Park near Lydford, this project provides our client with light, bright, two storey annexe accommodation for family living. The extension frames views of ancient woodland and makes connection with a south facing meadow and the meandering River Lyd.

Designed to read as a single storey, the extension is cut back into the landscape with living space at ground floor and a master bedroom within the eaves. The cantilevered structure extends a deep threshold between inside and outside while also providing solar shading to the southern elevations. Vernacular materials of charred larch and natural stone have been carefully detailed. The extension is sympathetic, contrasting and complimenting the existing cottage.
