Planning Approved, Dartmoor National Park
Delighted to have received planning permission for this contemporary two storey side extension located in Brentor, Dartmoor National Park.
The design retains the strong gable character of the 18th century corn mill using locally appropriate materials in a modern way. The extruded form creates a strong wall with rag stone slate coping (mirroring other walls on site). Windows within the new gable match the existing gable elevation with brick arches and slate cills.
The lightweight timber infill between gables provides separation and is intentionally contemporary in its vertical orientation. Modern aluminium windows provide contrast to timber casements within existing stonework.
Proposals reflect the character of site but ensure the pattern of development is readily understood. Contemporary interventions on historic buildings are well tested and supported by DNP design guidance.
