Project Overview

Uphill Farm Cottage is located within the Tamar Valley AONB in rural West Devon on the outskirts of Plymouth. Constructed in 1856, the Grade II* curtilage listed barn forms part of a wider group of significant buildings at Uphill.

The existing cottage, located to the southern end of the barn was unsympathetically altered during the 20th century and latterly fallen into disrepair. The client brief was to repair and extend the cottage to form new accommodation. To increase floor area without further converting the adjacent structure, a timber clad extension was proposed to accommodate circulation, utility and home office. Ecology was a key consideration during construction as the site provides habitat to pipistrelle bats and a pair of nesting barn owls.
