Walreddon Barn, Tavistock

Project Overview

Conversion of an 1835 natural stone threshing barn for a private client near Tavistock, Devon. Located within the Tamar Valley AONB, the barn has historical significance as a good example of an early 19th century bank barn and is identified as a non-designated heritage asset by the local authority.

Accessed at first floor, the barn features largely open plan accommodation with exposed oak beams and carefully repaired natural stone gable with wood burning stove. A timber partition is clad in the original 19th century threshing floor boards, providing separation for generous back of house space. At ground floor there are four double bedrooms and three luxurious bathrooms. Original beams have been carefully restored and provide a consistent rhythm across the spaces. Externally the barn benefits from extensive gardens with productive fruit trees, and a wildflower meadow.

The project meets the need for sustainable living, featuring solar shading to the south elevation, ASHP and electric car charging. This project provides our client with characterful, contemporary, sustainable accommodation in the heart of West Devon.
