Wortha Mill, Dartmoor
Project Overview
A contemporary two storey side extension providing new dining/day room at ground floor and an en-suite bedroom at first floor to a historic Mill on Dartmoor. This proposal aims to retain the strong gable character of the Mill using locally appropriate materials in a contemporary way. The extruded form creates a strong wall with rag stone slate coping (mirroring other walls on site). Windows within the new gable match the existing gable elevation with brick arches and slate cills. The lightweight timber infill between gables provides separation and is intentionally contemporary in its vertical orientation. Proposals reflect the character of site but ensure the pattern of development is readily understood.
